About The Position

New England Donor Services (NEDS) is an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) coordinating organ and tissue donation across New England and Bermuda, serving nearly 15 million people and screening approximately 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. The organization employs 398 clinical and non-clinical staff members and aims to be a leader in increasing life-saving gifts through effective relationships with clinical partners, donor families, and communities. NEDS is seeking an experienced ICU RN, Critical Care RN, Trauma Nurse, or Critical Care Respiratory Therapist to join their team as a Donation Coordinator. This full-time, 36-hours-a-week, night hybrid position involves responding on-site to organ donor referrals, providing clinical expertise in donor evaluation, management, organ allocation, and recovery. The role requires blending high-level clinical and interpersonal skills to educate hospital staff, obtain consent from donor families, and collaborate with surgical and critical care teams to optimize organs for transplantation. Success in this role demands a self-assured professional with keen clinical assessment skills, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm and effective in complex, high-pressure clinical situations. The next New Hire Donation Academy Orientation class is scheduled for September 2026.

Requirements

  • Experienced ICU RN, Critical Care RN, Trauma Nurse or Critical Care Respiratory Therapist
  • Critical care or trauma experience with medical/clinical credentials including experience managing complicated clinical event
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance (extensive driving throughout New England is required)

  • Maintain the requirements of an “eligible driver” including being at least 21 years old, maintaining an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and required minimum personal automobile insurance per NEDS automobile policy
  • 3-5 years clinical experience/critical care experience
  • Vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19

  • CPTC Certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Respond on-site to organ donor referrals to provide clinical expertise in donor evaluation, donor management, organ allocation and organ recovery
  • Educate hospital staff on the donation process
  • Work with donor families to obtain consent for donation
  • Work with multiple surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation
