Organ Donation Coordinator [ICU RN or Respiratory Therapist] - 36 hours a week/ NIGHTS - Brockton, MA
About The Position
New England Donor Services (NEDS) is seeking an experienced ICU RN, Critical Care RN, Trauma Nurse, or Critical Care Respiratory Therapist to join their team as a Donation Coordinator. This role involves responding on-site to organ donor referrals to provide clinical expertise in donor evaluation, donor management, organ allocation, and organ recovery. The position requires a blend of high-level clinical and people skills to educate hospital staff, work with donor families to obtain consent, and collaborate with surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation. Success in this role demands a self-assured professional with keen clinical assessment skills, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm and effective in highly charged and clinically complex situations. Requirements
- Experience as an ICU RN, Critical Care RN, Trauma Nurse, or Critical Care Respiratory Therapist.
- Critical care or trauma experience with medical/clinical credentials including experience managing complicated clinical events.
- Valid driver's license and insurance.
- Reliable transportation.
- Critical thinking skills and keen clinical assessment skills.
- Compassion and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to sit, stand, or bend for extended periods.
- Great work ethic and forward-thinking.
- Ability to travel to Waltham Headquarters and various hospitals throughout New England.
- Must maintain the requirements of an “eligible driver” including being at least 21 years old, maintaining an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and required minimum personal automobile insurance per NEDS automobile policy.
- 3-5 years clinical experience/critical care experience.
- Must be vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- CPTC Certification a plus.
- Ideal candidates live within an hour of Brockton, MA.
Responsibilities
- Respond on-site to organ donor referrals to provide clinical expertise in donor evaluation, donor management, organ allocation and organ recovery.
- Educate hospital staff on the donation process.
- Work with donor families to obtain consent for donation.
- Work with multiple surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation.
- Participate in a specialized organ donation training program.
- Perform 12-hour night shifts (8:00 pm - 8:00 am).
- Travel significantly with a personal vehicle throughout New England.
