Ordnance Equipment Mechanic

Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command•Minneapolis, MN

About The Position

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position in the regular career civil service. The incumbent must maintain active membership in the assigned Air Force Reserve unit and meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. ARTs receive an average of one weekend of military training per month, and the work schedule is aligned to allow participation in Unit Training Assemblies. Regular assignments are primarily ART duties, although non-ART duties may be assigned, generally not exceeding 30 percent of total responsibilities. The position performs ordnance equipment mechanic duties across duty sections within a munitions storage area, maintains home-station readiness, and trains reservists. Work includes inspection, maintenance, testing, repair, accountability, storage, handling, and transportation of munitions and associated support equipment. The incumbent must maintain current certifications and obtain and retain the security clearance designated for the position. This is a testing-designated position subject to random drug testing. The employee may need to travel on military or commercial aircraft for temporary duty and may need a valid state or commercial driver's license with a hazardous materials endorsement. The work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing, stretching, and working in tiring or difficult-to-reach positions. It includes lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing 50 to 100 pounds. Work takes place both indoors in shop areas and outdoors in prevailing weather, with possible exposure to slippery or uneven surfaces, confined spaces, noise requiring double hearing protection, cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, high-pressure testing hazards, toxic fuels, substances and acids, and explosive components. Protective clothing and face masks are required when exposure is possible; work may occur near explosive devices on a daily basis.
