About The Position

The Oral Surgery Technician is responsible for providing clinical support and operating room assistance under the supervision of a dentist or physician to ensure safe and effective delivery of oral surgery services. This individual assists the oral surgeon with technical and surgical procedures while maintaining a high standard of patient care, safety, and confidentiality. The Oral Surgery Technician supports daily clinical operations in alignment with the mission, policies, and procedures. Additionally, this role contributes to the efficiency of the oral surgery team by maintaining sterile environments, preparing instruments, and ensuring readiness for surgical procedures. The technician collaborates with cross-functional healthcare teams and participates in quality and safety initiatives that align with organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Completion of a technical program in a healthcare field or a minimum of three years of experience working as a dental assistant.
  • Experience in a surgical setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at time of hire, or within three-months of employment.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), per FHC guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a surgical technologist program.
  • Experience as an Oral Surgery Technician or in a related position.
  • Preferred Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the dentist or physician with surgical procedures to support the safe and effective delivery of oral surgery care.
  • Prepares instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure sterility and readiness for all procedures in accordance with infection control protocols.
  • Obtains dental radiographs (X-rays) and impressions to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Performs patient care functions, including recording vital signs and preparing patients for examination or procedures, to ensure clinical readiness.
  • Initiates intravenous (IV) therapy as ordered by the dentist or physician, following department protocols and scope of practice.
  • Provides patients with pre-operative and post-operative oral care instructions to support optimal healing and oral health maintenance.
  • Coordinates with internal departments to provide accurate and timely information required for insurance authorization and fee estimations.
  • Reviews and maintains role-specific competencies to ensure up-to-date skills, knowledge, and adherence to clinical standards of practice.
  • Triage patient calls and communicate with referring dental teams.
  • Assists with dental procedures performed in hospital settings, as needed.
  • Maintains strict adherence to scheduled work hours with regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
