Oracle DBA

Tech PartnersTulsa, OK
$140,000 - $140,000Remote

About The Position

Our client is hiring a hands-on Oracle DBA to be the primary database administrator on a small, high-trust Database Services team. This is a mostly remote role - the Manager is onsite in Tulsa roughly once a week, and you'll have the flexibility to work remotely from Tulsa, OK, or Tempe/Phoenix, AZ. That flexibility comes with real accountability: you'll own the environment day to day, with the Manager acting as a secondary DBA and organizational point of contact rather than someone directing your daily work. This is a great fit for someone who wants genuine technical ownership without a lot of management overhead - you're trusted to run the environment, make the calls, and be the expert in the room.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on Oracle DBA experience in production environments
  • Proven, hands-on production experience with Oracle RAC (specifically a 2-node cluster) and Data Guard - this is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have
  • Strong Oracle 19c (or comparable recent version) administration expertise
  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills - able to read and write production code, not just execute scripts
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWR, ASH, ADDM, and execution plan analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and self-manage - this role has minimal day-to-day oversight, so a self-starter mindset is essential
  • Comfortable operating with broad technical ownership on a small, lean team

Nice To Haves

  • Oracle patching and version upgrade planning/execution
  • Index lifecycle management, partitioning, and large table reorganization
  • SQL Plan Management (SPM) and SQL Profiles
  • Connection pool administration (DRCP or shared server)
  • Lower environment refresh design/automation
  • Oracle APEX and/or ORDS administration
  • Experience with infrastructure or storage migrations
  • Strong documentation and runbook-writing habits
  • OCP certification or equivalent
  • Background in financial services or transaction-processing environments

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Oracle DBA for a production RAC environment with Data Guard standby
  • Monitor and tune performance using OEM, AWR, ASH, and ADDM
  • Manage storage, capacity planning, and tablespace health
  • Own the patching and version management schedule
  • Own incident response - diagnose root cause and implement durable fixes, not band-aids
  • Manage backup/recovery procedures alongside the infrastructure team
  • Resolve SQL plan instability using SPM baselines and SQL Profiles
  • Design indexing strategies based on real application usage patterns
  • Tune connection pools, RAC-specific configuration, and parallel execution
  • Diagnose and remediate locking, contention, and wait event issues
  • Manage Oracle accounts, roles, profiles, and least-privilege service accounts
  • Enforce session controls, password policies, and audit configuration
  • Partner with developers on stored procedure design and code review
  • Build out DBA documentation, runbooks, and operational standards
  • Work with application, dev, and infrastructure teams
  • Coordinate with the external infrastructure vendor on migration work
  • Weigh in on architecture decisions and project planning
