About The Position

The OR Tech assists surgeons, registered nurses, and other members of the surgical team in the operating room. The role requires accuracy in a fast-paced environment and includes maintaining the sterile field, supporting surgical procedures, preparing patients, monitoring vital signs, and handling and maintaining instruments and equipment. This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position working Monday through Friday, plus call.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Valid BLS Certification.
One of the following: Associate of Science degree in surgical technology or a related field; completion of a vocational certificate program in surgical technology; certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; or two years of experience in a similar position.

Responsibilities

Maintain the sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
Scrub arms and hands according to established protocol.
Assist the surgical team with scrubbing in and putting on gloves and masks.
Pass surgical instruments to surgeons as needed during procedures.
Hold retractors and complete additional tasks at the surgeon’s request during procedures.
Handle tissue specimens obtained for laboratory analysis.
Count sponges, rags, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures.
Wash and sterilize medical instruments and equipment following surgeries.
Clean, organize, and restock the operating room following surgical procedures.
Supply fluids for use during operations, including blood, glucose, plasma, and saline.
Prepare patients for surgical procedures.
Monitor patients’ vital signs throughout surgery.
Ensure proper operation of equipment such as lights and suction machines.
Offer technical assistance to surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists.
