About The Position

United Health Services (UHS) is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated OR Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will play a crucial part in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care within our fast-paced operating room environment. As an OR Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for preparing operating rooms, meticulously ensuring all surgical instruments are sterile and readily available, and providing essential assistance to surgeons and nurses throughout various procedures. Your contributions directly support optimal patient outcomes and the smooth operation of the surgical suite. We are pleased to confirm that Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply for this position. Work Locations: UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY UHS Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY There is more than one location associated with this position. This is either because there are multiple openings at different sites, or the successful candidate will be required to float across multiple UHS facilities. Primary Work Shift: Rotational Compensation Range: $25.27 - $37.90 per hour, depending on experience You will be eligible for benefits if you are hired into a regular position with at least 24 scheduled weekly hours. ----- Sign-In Incentives: Up to a $10,000 sign-on bonus for candidates who meet eligibility criteria. Requirements

  • Meets the NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law; OR Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces; OR Completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credential OR graduated an accredited school of Practical Nursing and has an active NY state LPN license.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • CPR Certification within 3 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
  • Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
  • Assists the surgeon when needed gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure.
  • Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
  • Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.
  • Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.
  • Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems.
  • Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
  • Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.
  • Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.
  • Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.
  • Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon.
  • Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
  • Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases.
  • Takes rotating call duty.
