About The Position

The OR Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcome) in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical patient care. This role requires strong organizational skills to function effectively in a fast-paced Operating Room environment. The position involves Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and frequent exposure to chemical and radiation hazards.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Texas RN License.
  • BLS certification.
  • ACLS and PALS or successful completion within 3 months of hire date.
  • 2 years OR experience.
  • Must possess organizational skills to function in a fast-paced OR environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CNOR certification.
  • 2 years OR experience including general, neuro-spine, spine, and orthopedic joint.
  • Experience in sports medicine, arthroscopy, podiatry, pain, and oral surgery.
  • Scrub experience or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan of care, which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes.
  • Implements care in a knowledgeable, skilled, and consistent manner to achieve desired patient outcomes through nursing processes.
  • Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available center resources (time, personnel, equipment, supplies).
  • Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  • Demonstrates applied knowledge in medical/surgical patient care, pain assessment, actions of pharmaceuticals and anesthetic agents, laboratory values, safety, legal issues, and all emergency equipment.
  • Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills for sound decision-making.
  • Performs documentation duties on the floor and in the patient record, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and conciseness.
  • Works as part of a team in delivering patient care.
  • Maintains BLS and ACLS certification as required.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services and participates in staff meetings.
  • Remains flexible, adaptive, and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches.
  • Treats all patients equally, adopting the hospital’s Patient Rights policy.
  • Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner.
  • Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.
