The OR RN Circulator assists in the provision of nursing care to patients in an Ambulatory Surgical Center setting. The role assumes total responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and center's policies. During operations and other surgical procedures, the circulator acts as an intermediary between the operating room staff and the rest of the surgical center. The position monitors the patient throughout the surgical process, manages monitoring equipment, fluid lines, tubes, and catheters as needed, including support of the operative extremity. The role requires good judgment in determining appropriate nursing action and control in emergency situations. Successful completion of CPR/PALS/ACLS certification/recertification is required. The circulator makes independent clinical decisions regarding the patient's need for nursing care and communicates these to appropriate personnel. A team player attitude and efficient use of work time are expected.
