About The Position

The OR Liaison supports safe and efficient surgical operations by serving as the primary communication link between the Operating Room and the Sterile Processing Department. This role ensures the timely availability, accuracy, and completeness of surgical instruments, equipment, and case carts by coordinating real-time needs, resolving instrumentation issues, and facilitating workflow between clinical teams and SPD. The OR Liaison adheres to departmental policies, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), and regulatory and accreditation standards while promoting effective collaboration and continuous improvement in perioperative services.

Requirements

• High School Education/GED or equivalent required.
• Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing Distribution (CBSPD) required.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience preferred.
• Experience working directly with OR staff, surgeons, or procedural teams preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of surgical instrumentation, case flow, and OR workflow preferred.
• Experience using instrument tracking systems and coordinating real‑time instrument needs preferred.
• Sterile Processing experience or Graduate of a Sterile Processing Technical Training Program preferred.
• Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) preferred.
• Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary communication link between the Operating Room (OR) and the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), ensuring timely coordination of instrument, equipment, and supply needs before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Monitors OR schedules, case progress, and add‑on or emergent procedures to anticipate and communicate instrumentation requirements to SPD.
• Responds promptly to intraoperative requests for additional or replacement instruments, equipment, or supplies, ensuring rapid resolution of issues that may impact patient care or surgical workflow.
• Reviews case carts, instrument sets, and specialty trays for accuracy, completeness, and readiness prior to delivery to the OR.
• Identifies and communicates missing, damaged, or incomplete instrumentation to SPD leadership and assists in locating or coordinating alternatives when necessary.
• Collaborate with OR staff, surgeons, anesthesia teams, and SPD personnel to support efficient cases turnover and minimize delays related to instrumentation or equipment availability.
• Utilizes the instrument tracking system to verify tray status, document issues, and support traceability and workflow visibility between departments.
• Assists in prioritizing instrument reprocessing based on surgical schedules, emergent needs, and real‑time OR demands.
• Supports quality assurance efforts by reporting instrument defects, set configuration issues, and workflow concerns SPD leadership for follow‑up and corrective action.
• Maintains a professional, service‑oriented presence in the OR environment, promoting effective communication, teamwork, and customer service.
• Follows all organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards, including infection prevention, confidentiality, and professional conduct requirements.
• Demonstrates reliable attendance and punctuality in accordance with organizational expectations.
