About The Position

The OR RN Intern starts integrating technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family. The position assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness and provision of comfort. The role also provides direction, education and begins to assume leadership responsibilities at the unit level; delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care. The OR RN Intern safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or RN Applicant designation.
  • Graduate of an accredited RN nursing program.
  • Enrollment in an accredited Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing program within 24 months of date of hire.
  • Successful completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing no later than 5 years (or 60 months) from date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a LPN, nursing assistant or care partner experience in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.

Responsibilities

  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  • Functions under direction of RN in providing patient care, emotional support, nursing in-services, patient conferences, rounding with physicians and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care which deviates from standard, identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
