About The Position

The OR Clinician is a highly developed professional nurse leader responsible for fostering a culture of clinical excellence, staff engagement, and exceptional patient care. Working under the direction of the Unit Director or department leadership, this role provides direct leadership and support for a designated surgical service line while managing direct reports and assisting with the day-to-day operations of a busy Trauma and Transplant OR. The OR Clinician serves as a role model for professional nursing practice and plays a key role in staff development, performance management, onboarding, quality improvement initiatives, and operational success.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience
  • BS/BSN required.
  • If BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for a designated perioperative service line.
  • Support the operational effectiveness of a high-volume Trauma and Transplant OR.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and leadership to ensure efficient patient flow and surgical readiness.
  • Promote consistency, accountability, and high-quality patient care standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and mentorship for direct reports.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding activities.
  • Support staff through change initiatives and professional development opportunities.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource for new and experienced nurses.
  • Lead quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, staff satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Share knowledge and innovations through education, presentations, and collaboration.
  • Utilize advanced clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills to support patient care delivery.
  • Apply Relationship-Based Care principles to address the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Provide clinical support and direct patient care when necessary.
  • Build strong working relationships across disciplines.
  • Promote engagement, collaboration, and professional accountability.
