About The Position

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is the largest employer in the region with over 3,000 colleagues and a medical staff of almost 500 physicians and allied health professionals. MercyOne Medical Group – North Iowa is part of Iowa’s largest multispecialty clinic systems. As an OR Aide at MercyOne, you will be responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment and the decontamination and assembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the hospital and Mercy Family clinics. The OR Aide / Instrument Technician is responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures that all the instruments necessary to do the procedure are on the cart, ready for surgical use. As a member of the surgical team, helps to provide a safe and secure environment for patients and staff. The surgical nurse aide assists in the implementation of the AORN Standards of Care, Mercyone CenterNorth Iowa and Operating Room Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

No experience required
Ability to work flexible hours.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to meet departmental “on call” requirements.
Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.
Completes Mandatory Reporting requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years
Adaptability to learn new instruments and table setups as required by surgical procedure.

Nice To Haves

Certified Nursing assistant or health care experience equivalent.
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Supply Technician) Certificate in the Second year of employment
CST (Certified Surgical Technician) Certificate

Responsibilities

Cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment.
Decontamination and assembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the hospital and Mercy Family clinics.
Ensuring OR case carts are properly set up with all necessary instruments for surgical procedures.
Providing a safe and secure environment for patients and staff as a member of the surgical team.
Assisting in the implementation of AORN Standards of Care, Mercyone CenterNorth Iowa and Operating Room Policies and Procedures.
