About The Position

DT-Trak Consulting, Inc. is seeking a licensed Doctor of Optometry (OD) to provide contracted optometry services at a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) facility — the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Pollock, located in Pollock, Louisiana. This is a long-term federal contract position with a base year and up to four option years, offering exceptional income stability and a consistent, predictable schedule. Services are compensated on a per-session (hourly) basis, with a guaranteed maximum of 1,920 sessions annually. This role is ideal for an optometrist seeking high earning potential, a structured work environment, and the unique professional experience of serving a federal healthcare population.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution
  • Active, unrestricted optometry license (Louisiana licensure required or ability to obtain prior to start)
  • Current malpractice/medical indemnification insurance
  • BLS certification (or ability to obtain)
  • U.S. citizenship required (DOJ/BOP facility requirement)
  • Must have resided in the U.S. for 3 of the past 5 years
  • Must successfully complete BOP security clearance process:o National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check o FBI fingerprint check (FD-258) o Declaration of Federal Employment (OF-306) o Credit check — favorable credit report required (pre-screening recommended before applying) o Urinalysis (if applicable) o Law enforcement agency checks
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records
  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanor in a structured institutional setting
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1–2 years of clinical optometry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations (minimum 15–20 per day)
  • Diagnose and treat ocular conditions
  • Perform tonometry examinations
  • Remove foreign objects from the eye
  • Prescribe, fit, and adjust corrective lenses and frames
  • Document all patient encounters in BOP's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
  • Provide written reports including diagnosis, physical findings, treatment recommendations, and follow-up care
  • Maintain open communication with the Clinical Director, Health Services Administrator (HSA), and Contracting Officer's Representative (COR)
  • Comply with Bureau of Prisons Health Services Manual and all local institutional policies
