About The Position

The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, is seeking a full time Optometrist 2 in Doral, Florida. The Optometrist 2 performs ocular examinations to detect disease or abnormal conditions of the eye. Moreover, an employee in this position prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses, and drugs to treat eye disorders. Requirements

  • Doctorate degree - Optometry (OD) required
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements
  • Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses eye and vision problems as well as some conditions caused by systemic diseases.
  • Examines visual acuity, depth, and color perception.
  • Assesses ability to coordinate and focus eyes.
  • Prescribes contact lenses and glasses.
  • Provides vision therapy and low-vision rehabilitation.
  • Analyzes test results and develops treatment plans.
  • Administers drugs to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems.
  • Prescribes drugs to treat some eye diseases.
  • Provides preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
