About The Position

The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 1 in Naples, Florida. Ophthalmic Technician is proficient in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. Ophthalmic Technician performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system. Ophthalmic Technician 1 performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record. Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care. Provides patient-centric care. Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training. Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality. Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control. Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned. Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. Meets daily productivity goals. Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications. Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities. Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary. Works evenings and weekends as needed. Performs organizational duties as assigned. Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients. Facilitates motility exams. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Works well with patients of all age groups

  • Exhibits ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using EMR telehealth platform
  • Demonstrates competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups
  • Prepares patients for intravitreal injections
  • Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
