About The Position
An Optometric Technician is a valuable asset to an optometrist as they assist in providing a world class Total Patient Experience. This team member is able to handle a wide range of duties while using optical equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Optometrist. The role involves facilitating patient flow, assisting the doctor in preliminary testing and providing hands-on patient care, verifying medical and vision insurances, and effectively communicating with patients, doctors, and managers. The position also requires answering inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Basic computer skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Excitement to learn and grow
- Favorable result on Background Check
- Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Favorable result on background check as required by state
- Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Nice To Haves
- Previous medical office experience preferred
- Previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
Responsibilities
- Facilitate patient flow
- Assist the doctor in preliminary testing and provide hands-on patient care
- Verify medical and vision insurances
- Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
- Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
- Embrace and execute our Total Patient Experience to build relationships with all patients while delivering great medical support
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
- Practice urgency at all times placing value on a patient’s time, as well as the doctor’s time and schedule
- Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX or OCT
- Follow scripting for testing equipment (photos, visual fields, visual activity, etc.)
- Clean all examination equipment including tonometer tip
- Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all time
- General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager
- Consistently creating a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
- Commitment to work hours that meet the needs of the business which may include weekends, schedule changes or an extended schedule
