About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join the Optical Talent Center. With the guidance of Senior Engineers, you will collaborate and contribute across the design team, and play a key role in the design and development on a variety of passive, active, and directed energy optical payloads. To be successful in this role you must have strong written and oral communication skills to present updates to a variety of audiences with confidence. You will apply your keen quantitative skills to solve the formidable mechanical challenges of precision optical payload subsystems.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, physics, optical sciences, or related field
  • Experience with standard design tools applied to optomechanical design from among CREO, NASTRAN/NX, MATLAB, Solid Works, CATIA, ZEMAX, Python, and/or other relevant assets
  • Experience with specification development, vendor interface, parts selection, and/or configuration control
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance
  • US Citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience with developing mechanical solutions for optical payloads or working with related precision mechanisms and some optical experience
  • Industry or laboratory experience with electro-optical systems including or related to remote sensing systems, astronomical telescopes, lasers, and laboratory optical diagnostic instrumentation
  • Proposal writing experience
  • Basis of Estimate, Cost estimation experience, to include cost volume/section support on a proposal and/or program baseline establishment
  • Possession of, or current background investigation that supports a TS/SCI/Poly clearance

  • Provide Basis of Estimate and Cost estimation support on a proposal and/or program baseline establishment.
