About The Position

This Optimization Engineering Co-Op position is designed for engineering or sustainability-focused students seeking hands-on experience in energy efficiency and building performance. The role involves contributing to meaningful projects, analyzing data, supporting fieldwork, documenting findings, and assisting project teams in evaluating and improving building systems. The co-op will gain exposure to real-world energy and sustainability projects, develop technical and professional skills, and learn how engineering decisions impact building performance and environmental outcomes. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, curious, and eager to learn and collaborate with professionals across disciplines.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited (or equivalent) program.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of a semester.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to data analysis or visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or energy modeling tools.
  • Curious mindset with a willingness to learn and seek feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and applies foundational engineering knowledge within the built environment.
  • Supports energy studies, audits, and building system evaluations (HVAC, lighting, envelope, etc.).
  • Assists with system installation verification and functional performance testing.
  • Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data related to building performance and energy usage.
  • Contributes to the preparation of energy calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Utilizes software tools for data analysis, visualization, and building performance evaluation.
  • Participates in field observations and validation of equipment and system performance.
  • Collaborates with project teams to support deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Builds understanding of commissioning, retro-commissioning, and optimization processes.
  • Ensures accuracy and quality in all assigned work.
  • Engages in continuous learning and professional development.
