About The Position

We are hiring an Optics Engineer to design, develop, build, integrate, and test optical systems and products based on optics, photonics, and laser technologies. This role supports optical and electrical engineering throughout the system development life cycle, including requirements analysis, optical component selection and qualification, system performance modeling, test development, design reviews, integration, verification, and root cause analysis. The Optics Engineer will collaborate with device, hardware, and software engineering teams to develop optical systems and evaluate active and passive optical components, test instrumentation, and vendor capabilities. This position also performs optical performance analysis involving optical loss, timing, power, and related system parameters.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a related Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or specialized technical field, plus 1 year of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree.
  • Understanding of electrical and optical engineering concepts, processes, principles, and theories.
  • Knowledge of optical systems, photonics, laser technologies, and electrical/optical system development.
  • Experience or knowledge related to optical component selection, system performance analysis, integration, verification, and testing.
  • Proficiency with optical engineering design tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, build, and test systems and products using optics, photonics, and laser technologies.
  • Collaborate with device, hardware, and software design teams throughout optical system development.
  • Specify, select, evaluate, and qualify active and passive optical components.
  • Develop and benchmark optical system performance models.
  • Develop and implement optical and electrical test procedures.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate test instrumentation for system and component testing.
  • Perform electrical and optical requirements analysis, functional analysis, and performance analysis, including optical loss, timing, and power.
  • Support the design, integration, and verification of electrical and optical components, equipment, and systems.
  • Participate in requirements analysis and engineering design reviews throughout the system development life cycle.
  • Generate technical engineering products and documentation supporting program and project requirements.
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities and support technical assessments of optical components and technologies.
  • Perform root cause analysis for electrical issues affecting system performance.
  • Apply established optical engineering processes throughout the program or project life cycle.
