About The Position

Join us as an Optician at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center located in Clarksburg, WV. This is a contract assignment with the Department of Veterans Affairs. W-2 and 1099 employment options available. Monterey is a Veterans Affairs (VA) Verified Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB). We graduated from the SBA 8(a) Program and have a variety of contracts available for use. Monterey teams with general practice, specialists, and allied health practitioners nationwide to provide local coverage for examinees. We deliver a wide range of medical examination-only services to public sectors and the individuals they serve. Our clients include the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), the Department of Labor, the Department of Defense, and more. Our provider network consists of over 700 providers in various medical specialties and degree types. They conduct diagnostic-only examination services on an as-needed basis. These services may take place in their private office, established clinics located across the country, or during travel opportunities for group screening events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be certified by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO).
  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Must pass TB test.
  • Complete and online onboarding process.
  • Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s in Ophthalmic Technology preferred.
  • State licensing not required in state of West Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Filling medically necessary eyeglass prescriptions as written by the privileged VA eye care provider.
  • Ensure medical justification is within prescriptions for any add-ons.
  • Communicate with primary eye care providers for prescription updates.
  • Conduct on-site optical fitting and dispensary services.
  • Helping Veteran beneficiaries by greeting them, determining lifestyle needs for prescription eyewear, assisting with frame selection and making recommendations.
  • Verify eyeglass prescription specifications provided by the VAMC Optometry or Ophthalmology clinics.
  • Making minor repairs and adjustments to eyewear as needed.
