About The Position

KLA’s Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) Advanced Development Group develops next-generation metrology products and technology roadmaps for semiconductor manufacturing. The group works on product definition, architecture analysis, modeling, simulations, experimental feasibility, prototype system development, and characterization for front-end-of-line critical-dimension and thin-film-stack metrology. The Optical Systems Student Engineer will join the R&D team as an intern and contribute to the development of novel optical metrology technologies. Working alongside research scientists and engineers, the student will support theoretical studies, system modeling and data processing, concept and architecture analysis, laboratory setup development, and test-plan execution to evaluate the feasibility and performance of new concepts. The role also collaborates with cross-functional teams to refine system designs and improve measurement capabilities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an M.Sc. or Ph.D. program in Physics or Optical Engineering.
  • Strong theoretical foundation in physical optics and optical systems, including lasers, plasma sources, detectors, and image sensors.
  • Technical understanding of hardware technologies and systems engineering.
  • Hands-on experience designing, specifying, and developing complex electro-optical setups.
  • Ability to develop system models and perform system error-budget analysis.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data using MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to execute work plans and test plans.
  • Requires less than 1 year of related experience.
