Optical Systems Engineer

CredoSan Jose, CA
$180,000 - $210,000

About The Position

Team Credo is seeking an Optical Systems Engineer to help validate and optimize our next‑generation optical modules and components, supporting data rates from 50 Gbps up to 448 Gbps and beyond. In this role, you’ll use your expertise in optical systems and components to design module schematics, develop test plans, and analyze performance data to define final chip and module configurations. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our optical solutions meet the performance and reliability needs of AI, cloud, and data‑center applications. As a core member, your work will directly contribute to Credo’s leadership in high‑speed optical interconnect technologies.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analog, digital, RF, and optical circuit analysis skills.
  • Solid understanding of circuit theory, linear systems, feedback, IC fundamentals, high‑speed RF concepts, and link‑budget analysis.
  • Hands‑on experience with high‑speed optical and electrical test equipment (e.g., VNAs, DCAs, spectrum analyzers, power meters, OSAs).
  • Experience with high‑speed optical/electrical testing and basic test automation.
  • Programming skills in Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for data collection, analysis, and visualization.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for cross‑functional collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with optical alignment and fiber‑coupling techniques.
  • Familiarity with optical test instruments such as variable attenuators, multi‑axis positioners, and advanced optical diagnostics.
  • Understanding of tolerances, yield, reliability, and failure‑analysis methodologies.
  • Experience with signal‑integrity analysis for high‑speed PCBs (e.g., Keysight ADS).
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools for optoelectronic assemblies (e.g., Ansys HFSS).
  • Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools such as AutoCAD or similar.
  • Experience designing or reviewing high‑speed PCB layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and optical measurements on optical evaluation boards and modules.
  • Design and analyze optical and high‑speed electrical hardware, including schematics for optical test stations.
  • Evaluate optical components such as lasers, modulators, and receivers for performance, reliability, and suitability in reference designs and test systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans for engineering validation and design verification.
  • Conduct failure analysis and collaborate with contract manufacturers or field applications teams as needed.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional partners across signal integrity, thermal, mechanical, firmware, electrical engineering, technology, marketing, and operations.
