About The Position

As an Optical & SerDes Validation Engineer in the SerDes Technology team, you will collaborate with various Product Development Groups, Silicon Design, DFT, Packaging, and interface with key technology partners. This individual serves as a critical technical point of contact to ensure best-practices and new test concepts are architected, developed, and driven throughout the organization. This position focuses primarily on developing characterization and validation test solutions for optical links (co-packaged optics, optical interconnects) with additional exposure to electrical SerDes validation. You will be part of a larger team that defines test solutions from concept, development, to production deployment.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with optical lab instruments such as DCA, Tunable Filter, PDFA, OSA etc
  • Experience testing/characterizing optical transceivers, pluggable modules, or co-packaged optics
  • Experience in mixed signal analysis and issue debug across optical domains
  • Experience in scripting test automation, demo GUI, customer supporting scripts
  • Experience with high-speed scopes, BERT, VNA, or other electrical lab equipment is a plus
  • Experience in SerDes electrical compliance for industry standards such as PCIe, Ethernet is a plus
  • Understanding of Signal Integrity and/or Power Integrity is a plus
  • Familiarity with advanced data post-processing techniques is a plus
  • Keen interest in the latest optical link validation and characterization methodology
  • Excel in teamwork and possess strong communication skills
  • Highly motivated individual skilled in optimizing high-speed optical link performance and capable of identifying and addressing issues within a collaborative team environment
  • Familiarity with electrical SerDes validation is a valuable complement to this role.

Responsibilities

  • Validate and characterize AMD's optical SerDes link functionality and performance against design targets, product requirements, datasheet and industry standards
  • Working closely with internal and external teams to troubleshoot optical link issues and determine root cause. Feedback to designers and architects for design improvements
  • Collaborate with architects, design engineers, and application engineers to understand specifications and features to validate and characterize optical modules and interfaces
  • Ensure and enhance optical link performance extinction ratio, TDECQ, eye/BER over optical channels compliant to relevant industry standards
  • Develop test automations with advanced scripting and programming skills to improve test and data analysis efficiency and coverage
