About The Position

Apple is seeking a self-driven Sensing Hardware Engineer to join the optical sensing team, which integrates optical sensors across various Apple products like iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This role involves bringing devices to life and enabling them to interact with users and the environment in innovative ways. The successful candidate will design, develop, and launch next-generation optical sensing technologies. Key responsibilities include analyzing data to draw conclusions, enhancing product design and manufacturability, and driving failure analysis. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability, Test, Process, and Software Engineers, is essential to deliver state-of-the-art sensing solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong background in optical design with foundational knowledge in optical and electrical engineering
  • Hands-on experience with optical lab equipment (light sources, microscopes, spectrometers, detector, free space optics on optical bench etc.)
  • Proficiency in scripting (python, MATLAB, etc) for model development and data collection
  • BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with optical simulation tools (LightTools, Lumerical, COMSOL, etc.)
  • Experience supporting volume manufacturing, including test design, failure analysis, and statistical methods
  • Ability to build effective cross-functional working relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong teamwork abilities and self-motivation to tackle technical challenges
  • Degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
