About The Position

The Optical Mechanical Technician role is a full-time, regular position within the Engineering and Technical Support category. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, assembly skills, and the ability to work independently on production assemblies and repairs. The technician will utilize various measuring tools, read blueprints, and manage multiple technical tasks while maintaining organization and meeting delivery dates. A key aspect of the role involves cross-training within the department to acquire new skills and processes, assisting in maintaining productivity and efficiency, and adhering to EH&S guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and understanding Material Safety Data Sheets for hazardous chemicals.

Requirements

0-3 years of mechanical and/or machinist related experience.
Must be mechanically inclined with a curiosity and aptitude to learn.
Computer proficiency with the willingness to learn new technologies.
Ability to speak up as appropriate and escalate issues as required.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain a high degree of flexibility and assist others as needed.
Solid written and verbal communication skills.

Experience with optics is a plus

Responsibilities

Strong mechanical aptitude and assembly skills
Read blueprints and work from assembly drawings
Be a self-starter, who will work independently on production assemblies and repairs
Work with micrometers, calipers, multi meters, and other measuring tools
Multi-task on a variety of technical jobs while keeping the work organized
Cross-train within the department to learn other skills and work processes
Assist in maintaining productivity and efficiency, while meeting scheduled delivery dates and consistently upholding compliance
Develop the ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets in handling hazardous chemicals
Adhere to all EH&S and proper protective equipment as required (PPE)
