About The Position

Optical Components Test Engineering plays a critical role in enabling reliable, high-volume manufacturing of Ciena’s optical component technologies. This position partners closely with Research and Development (R&D), manufacturing partners, and cross-functional teams to deliver robust, automated test solutions that support both sustaining products and new product introduction (NPI). The role offers the opportunity to directly influence product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction through data-driven test engineering excellence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience developing automated test systems and software for production environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in optical or high-speed electronic test system development
  • MATLAB experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and external partner teams
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with a clear sense of accountability
  • Fluent English

Nice To Haves

  • C# and/or python experience
  • Strong understanding of optical component testing and manufacturing processes
  • Extensive test equipment control and automation experience
  • Background in supporting test activities across global manufacturing partners
  • Experience in driving yield improvement initiatives using data analytics
  • Exposure to failure analysis of optical components and sub-systems
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, primarily to Asia
  • Bilingual: English/French

Responsibilities

  • Support high-volume manufacturing by debugging, maintaining, and enhancing automated test systems for optical components
  • Provide technical insight into test instrument selection and station design
  • Drive capital efficiency through test time reduction, yield improvement, and optimization of test strategies
  • Support failure analysis, root cause identification, and corrective action implementation for components, sub-systems, and field returns
  • Lead test system replication, transfer, bring-up, and ongoing support at partner manufacturing sites
