About The Position

The Camera Hardware Engineering group researches and develops key technologies that define Apple products. The Optical Coating and Process Engineer contributes to advanced optical technology development, working on optical thin-film coatings and downstream processes from early concept development through high-volume product ramp. The role involves hands-on development with coating systems and advanced metrology equipment, collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners, and optimizing thin-film processes and materials to achieve high optical performance and reliability.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in optical thin-film process development and optical lens engineering.
  • Proven track record in optical thin-film design and PVD process development.
  • Fundamental knowledge of material evaluation and characterization for lens materials and optical thin films.
  • Native or native-level fluency in Japanese and strong communication skills.
  • Experience with advanced coating technologies applied to optical lenses or optical components/modules.
  • Hands-on experience developing downstream/back-end processes for optical lens manufacturing.
  • Experience transitioning lens processes from development/NPI into high-volume manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with DOE (Design of Experiments), Reliability (REL) testing, and Failure Analysis (FA) methodologies.
  • Working proficiency in English for technical communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cutting-edge optical thin-film coatings and downstream processes from early concept development through high-volume product ramp.
  • Conduct hands-on development using coating systems and advanced metrology equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver optical solutions.
  • Optimize thin-film processes and materials to achieve optical performance and reliability.
