About The Position

Optical Engineers at Meta will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of wearable systems, exploring uncharted territories for next-generation wearable devices. This role involves designing architecture and optical sub-systems for wearable glasses, developing and implementing test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support transparent display systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, and/or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience in optical systems engineering and/or other relevant fields
  • Experience in the wearables industry, including human-vision, optical design, coating, and manufacturing process, or similar experience
  • Experience communicating and collaborating in a cross-functional team environment
  • Experience in Design of Experiment and statistical analysis using JMP, Matlab, or similar programs

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Optics, Physics, and/or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience in architecture, design, systems engineering for augmented reality optical/display systems
  • In depth knowledge of entire optical system design from electron to photon to the eye for display systems
  • Demonstrated experience in operating with speed and agility in ambiguous or fast-moving environments, including startup or early-stage product development experience
  • Proven experience in technical communication to influence architecture decisions across organizational boundaries
  • Experience incorporating AI/ML tools or computational methods into engineering design workflows

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge optical solutions for new optics architectures
  • Identify, incubate, and productize optical technologies that have the potential to revolutionize the field of wearable optics
  • Specify key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components and systems
  • Develop and maintain technical roadmaps
  • Interface with stakeholders and leadership to influence product roadmaps
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity
  • Manage budgets, resources, and collaborations with global vendors
