This is a peripatetic role with a hybrid working approach, and we’re happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to help make this role work for you. Preference is for someone living in the North West, North East or Midlands. (no sponsorship is available for this role)Job Purpose We’re looking for a passionate Optel Planning Assistant to join our Optel & Metering Planning team. In this role, you’ll support the delivery of Optel & Metering programmes of work, including ET investment delivery and emergency, first and second line response. You’ll be responsible for resourcing and scheduling both Operational and Capital plans within current‑year timescales, while providing essential administrative support across Planning and the wider Operational teams. You’ll also compile performance information using KPIs and contribute to regulatory reporting that supports team objectives.

Requirements

  • GNVQ Level 3 or equivalent relevant experience
  • Comfortable working cross‑functionally with a range of stakeholders
  • Flexible yet assertive, with the confidence to suggest and implement new ideas
  • Strong experience using Microsoft Office
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage applications, data and documentation effectively
  • Strong communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Nice To Haves

  • Planning or project delivery experience is desirable, but not essential
  • Good understanding of National Grid operational policies, procedures and processes

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular and effective communication between planning, operational and project teams
  • Provide insight on current and future workloads to support prioritisation discussions
  • Assist in developing a challenging but deliverable work plan and implement changes as required
  • Identify and discuss pinch points, constraints and risks that could impact delivery
  • Ensure work development aligns with agreed deliverable timescales
  • Carry out administrative tasks, including managing SharePoint sites, scheduling meetings, and supporting Planning Officers and the Operations Manager
