This is a high-volume pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacy Manager in establishing new or additional procedures to comply with all policies, processes, and requirements from Central Pharmacy. They achieve operational objectives and resolve operational problems of the FLDOHMDC Pharmacy. The role ensures continuous quality assurance and improvement activities to resolve and prevent discrepancies between received medications, documentation, and information in QS/1 and the Central Pharmacy system by investigating, assessing, analyzing, and making recommendations to the Pharmacy Manager, Senior Leader, and Central Pharmacy on an ongoing basis. The Pharmacy Technician operates a motor vehicle for the regular distribution of medications sent daily from DOH Central Pharmacy to the Warehouse at the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, and further for local distribution to all FLDOHMDC clinical programs and sites. This is to complete the change in the chain of custody, maintaining the safety and integrity of products in transit. They verify orders with the receiving program by acquiring a signature and travel to clinical programs and sites to pick up expired medications, coordinating their return to the DOH Central Pharmacy while maintaining records. The position performs on-site analysis of operational problems with medication distribution to FLDHOMDC programs and clinics, focusing on quality assurance and perpetual inventories. They advise interdisciplinary staff teams to develop optimum resolutions for clinical programs to comply with policies, processes, and requirements from Central Pharmacy and FLSOH. This includes receiving, verifying, and reconciling requisitions from Central Pharmacy and Cardinal Health, preparing and maintaining records of all medications received and delivered, and forwarding required documentation. The role involves retrieving medication files and documentation upon request and acting as a temporary custodian of medications. They coordinate with DOH programs to determine medication needs for bulk orders and are responsible for stocking and rotating stock, verifying expiration dates to maintain inventory. Additionally, the Pharmacy Technician assists with coordinating monthly and quarterly pharmacy inventories as required by DOH policy. They are responsible for verifying pharmaceutical inventory received from central pharmacy and ensuring proper storage of all medications to maintain their integrity. The role also ensures cold chain management of vaccines is maintained from receipt until delivery to prevent adulteration and loss, and assists the manager in correcting inventory variances. Other related duties as required.
