About The Position

This is an Other Personnel Services (OPS) position with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Food Safety, Bureau of Laboratories. The role involves managing laboratory inventory, receiving shipments, conducting inventory checks, and assisting with sample management. The position requires adherence to strict procedural and quality control guidelines in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience in laboratory work.
  • College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 (1 year) semester, 45 quarter (1 year) or 720 (1 year) classroom hours for each year (4 years) of the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of the terminology and laboratory safety.
  • Knowledge of inventory tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and laboratory mathematics.
  • Ability to collect and record data and information.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to keep accurate inventory records.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to comply with strict procedural and quality control/quality assurance guidelines in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

  • Ability to use laboratory computer applications (email, data processing, spreadsheet, database, word processing) in a networked environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Receives incoming shipments, routes packing slips, and enters inventory items into the Lab Information Management System (LIMS) to maintain accurate tracking and compliance.
  • Conducts routine inventory checks, monitors supply levels, and submits requests for purchase to prevent delays in laboratory activities and ensure essential consumables are available when needed, minimizing the risk of running out of critical items.
  • Manages inventory related to large sampling events, including storage, monitoring, and shipment of related supplies for planned and emergency sampling efforts.
  • Assists the sample custodian with sample receiving and cleaning dairy coolers and preparing them for return shipment, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and made available to inspectors promptly.
