About The Position

The Florida Digital Service provides enterprise leadership to advance the secure, responsible, and effective use of data across Florida state government. The Data Governance and Technology Assistant provides part-time operational and technical support within the Office of the State Chief Data Officer (OSCDO). The position performs structured, supervised work that improves the quality, consistency, documentation, testing, and efficiency of OSCDO enterprise data initiatives.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of or interest in data management, data governance, metadata, data quality, software testing, analytics, cybersecurity, or digital government.
  • Ability to follow documented technical procedures, execute repeatable tests, accurately record results, and identify inconsistencies or defects.
  • Basic ability to work with structured data using spreadsheets or comparable analytical tools.
  • Ability to learn programming, scripting, APIs, SQL, Python, Git, JSON, cloud technologies, or comparable modern technologies as required by assigned work.
  • Ability to use modern development tools, including approved AI-assisted capabilities, to support coding, testing, research, analysis, and documentation, with appropriate human review, validation, and compliance with applicable data-handling, security, privacy, records-management, and acceptable-use requirements.
  • Ability to prepare clear technical documentation, test evidence, research summaries, and process documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and attention-to-detail skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of coursework in information technology, computer science, data science, information systems, cybersecurity, business analytics, public administration, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Coursework or practical experience with programming, scripting, APIs, SQL, Python, Git, cloud technologies, databases, software testing, metadata, or data visualization.
  • Experience using approved generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted development tools in a structured academic or work setting.
  • Interest in enterprise data management, interoperability, data governance, application development, or public-sector technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with reviewing and validating dataset metadata and other structured information used in statewide data discovery and interoperability capabilities.
  • Support development and publication of data standards, governance guidance, templates, and reference materials by maintaining source references, review comments, change logs, document versions, and publication records.
  • Conduct structured research and assemble source material for review by data governance and technical staff.
  • Assist with maintaining inventories of datasets, applications, interfaces, standards, and other data-management resources.
  • Support preparation of materials for data governance workgroups and collaborative activities with state agencies.
  • Execute documented test cases and acceptance criteria for data catalogs, web applications, metadata services, and other digital capabilities.
  • Document defects, unexpected application behavior, data-quality issues, metadata issues, and test results for review by technical staff.
  • Validate published resources, links, documentation, metadata, and application functionality before and after release.
  • Assist with data profiling, metadata review, mapping, standards-conformance checks, and other structured analysis appropriate to assigned work.
  • Collect and organize test evidence needed to demonstrate completion of defined technical or governance outcomes.
  • Use approved development tools, including AI-assisted capabilities when appropriate, to support development, testing, debugging, and documentation of scripts and lightweight technical solutions.
  • Develop or modify small utilities supporting metadata validation, data-quality assessment, application testing, catalog operations, standards validation, and interoperability activities under staff supervision.
  • Assist with prototyping API integrations, data transformations, test harnesses, reports, and other reusable technical components.
  • Use modern development techniques and approved AI-assisted capabilities to prepare initial code, test cases, technical documentation, and troubleshooting approaches, with outputs reviewed and validated before operational use.
  • Document development decisions, test results, known limitations, validation performed, and required human review for technical work, including work produced with automated or AI-assisted tools.
  • Support interoperability pilots by collecting test results, documenting workflows, validating data, and maintaining project evidence.
  • Assist technical and governance staff with demonstrations, research, documentation, and repeatable procedures supporting enterprise data-management initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Office of the State Chief Data Officer.
