About The Position

The primary goal of the tutorial program is to provide student-athletes with quality academic assistance, beyond what they receive in the classroom. Tutors must be able to understand and clearly communicate course content, demonstrate the ability to motivate and provide strategy skills for studying, and act professionally at all times as a positive role model. Tutors must also be willing to comply with UAA, NCAA and UF rules, attend mandatory trainings, maintain thorough knowledge of what constitutes a violation of the rules, and report concerns about students to the Tutorial Coordinator and/or Academic Counselor. Flexibility and availability to meet with students, and effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, and students are essential.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree)
  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate, PhD and/or working professional in his/her field
  • Received a B+ or higher in the class(es) that the applicant intends to tutor
  • Have a GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in subject area(s)
  • Good time management skills with attention to detail when completing paperwork
  • Ability to engage effectively with others of diverse cultures or backgrounds
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Faculty recommendation can exempt the B+ grade for engineering, science or math majors
  • Ability to work a non-standard work week to include evenings and weekends
