The Opportunity Academy Internship is a year-long program designed to build the careers of participants while contributing to the construction of NYC schools. This program includes an eighteen (18) week paid training period led by public construction and procurement professionals. Participants will engage in graded assignments, practical exercises, and tests. Following the training, interns will be placed in internships with SCA Mentor and Mentor Graduate firms, construction management firms, and various SCA departments for up to thirty-six (32) weeks. Interns are expected to work twenty (20) hours per week, with the possibility of full-time hours during the SCA’s peak summer season. The program aims to assist minority-owned, woman-owned, and locally based business enterprises (MWLBEs) in their back-office operations, including managing submissions for bid documentation, requests for payments, project schedules, change orders, and closeout documents required by the SCA and other local government agencies. The goal is to develop a workforce with transferable job skills, enabling them to compete as business development professionals trained to access government contracting opportunities, particularly in public construction.
