The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center is seeking an outstanding oculoplastic/oculofacial and orbital surgeon to join their rapidly growing academic department. The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative ophthalmology service focused on providing exceptional oculoplastic, orbital, lacrimal, and reconstructive eye care to patients in New Mexico and surrounding regions. The role involves a blend of tertiary referral care and safety-net medicine, offering exposure to diverse ophthalmic conditions and patient populations. The physician will have the opportunity to grow an existing comprehensive oculoplastic surgery practice, encompassing functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery, orbital disease, lacrimal disorders, periocular and orbital trauma, and ophthalmic oncology, in collaboration with multidisciplinary partners. There are also opportunities to expand aesthetic oculoplastic services based on the candidate's interests. The role includes collaboration with various specialties, sharing general ophthalmology call responsibilities, and actively participating in the education of residents and medical students. The department has a recently established ophthalmology residency program and is experiencing significant growth, offering a unique chance to help build and shape the department while addressing a critical need for specialized oculoplastic and orbital care. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care, teaching, and scholarly activity within an academic setting, with opportunities for clinical research and collaboration through the department's growing research enterprise.
