About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician will assist the Ophthalmologist with diagnostic and treatment-oriented procedures and administrative tasks under the general guidance of the Practice Manager and Physician.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved program for Ophthalmology Assistants (COA, COT, COMT).
  • Previous experience in an ophthalmology office.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound, visual field, OCT, a-scan (such as IOL master), fundus camera, slit lamp and all other relevant office equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of ocular and systemic diseases.
  • Computer and typing skills necessary to effectively and efficiently utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices involving the treatment of the eye and diagnosis of ocular disease.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • People skills needed to have consistently positive patient interactions.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • BCLS certification preferred.
  • Understanding of the operations of a medical practice preferred.
  • Strong orientation towards the provisions of high quality, cost effective and comprehensive medical care.
  • Ability to use effective organizational and time management skills to set priorities and respond quickly to urgent/emergent situations.
  • Strong communication--both oral, written and presentation skills to convey information in a clear and concise manner to persons of varied age groups, customers and/or groups.
  • Ability to create, maintain and support a high functioning team; establish and foster cooperative working relationships with staff and management; and function effectively as part of that team.
