About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, is seeking a 100% Ophthalmic Technician – Perimetry (GC84) to perform visual field tests on patients. This role may also include tonometry, visual acuity testing, and eye drop instillation. The preferred schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00a-5:00p, but may be modified to fit candidate and clinic needs. Requirements

  • Three years of health care experience involving direct patient care.
  • Experience with the use and maintenance of specialized medical equipment.
  • At least one year of prior experience at the level of a Clinical Technician II or equivalent, or a combination of related education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • JCAHPO certified (COA) within 18 months of hire, and maintain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and automated visual field testing including Goldmann, Humphrey, Octopus, and Maia Microperimetry Visual Fields.
  • Enter data into devices, PACS, and EPIC.
  • Read lens corrections from lensometer.
  • Participate in research studies within the Department of Ophthalmology.
  • May perform tonometry, visual acuity testing and eye drop instillation.
  • Use procedures, skills, and techniques to prevent cross contamination and transmission of infection according to infection control standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Care for patients with known or potentially contagious infections according to written protocols.
  • Keep exam room stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment properly.
  • Use supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Document patient information regarding testing.
  • Prepare charts for next day’s clinics.
  • Assure proper billing documents are completed and turned in to Billing.
  • Complete assignments, seek assistance when necessary, and assume responsibility for special duties or tasks assigned.
  • Maintain professional appearance.
  • Demonstrate punctual and dependable attendance at work.
  • Consider patient and staff needs when requesting time off; give adequate notification when absence is expected.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and visitors.
  • Attend in-service education programs.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Perform projects within the agreed-upon time unless an extension is requested and approved.
