About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care in an ophthalmic setting, including obtaining patient history, performing various diagnostic tests, and assisting physicians. The technician will be responsible for accurate documentation in the EHR, maintaining patient confidentiality, and ensuring the smooth flow of patients through the clinic. The position also requires maintaining a clean and sterile environment, managing supplies, and demonstrating the ability to work with patients of all ages, particularly geriatric patients. Regular travel to satellite locations may be required.

  • Ability to review patient charts and post test results into EHR.
  • Ability to clean and sterilize equipment and maintain autoclave.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with geriatric patients and patients of all ages.
  • Ability to stock supplies.
  • Ability to clean patient exam rooms.
  • Demonstrated compliance with safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to check medication and supply expiration dates and follow up.
  • Ability to attend required meetings and participate in committees.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Obtains patient history and transcribes results into the EHR as dictated by the physician.
  • Records physician fee tickets in the EHR as dictated by the physician.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Escorts patients to appropriate areas.
  • Assists physicians by obtaining supplies as needed during patient care.
  • Assists other technicians as needed.
  • Performs visual acuity tests on patients.
  • Controls patient flow.
  • Performs autorefraction and lensometry tests as needed.
  • Performs tonometry on patients.
  • Determines if a patient requires further testing by a technician and notifies the technician.
  • Performs visual field testing, glare testing, color vision testing, and Schirmer's tear testing as required.
  • Reviews patient charts and posts test and examination results into the EHR, and enters information from prior visits.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment and maintains the autoclave.
  • Works with geriatric patients and patients of all ages.
  • Stocks supplies on an ongoing basis.
  • Cleans patient exam rooms in relation to testing and equipment.
  • Complies with all provisions of safety rules and other policies and procedures.
  • Checks expiration of medications and supplies and follows up as appropriate.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through meetings, education programs, seminars, and conferences.
  • Performs other duties to ensure the smooth flow of work/patients in the office.
