About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties that prepare the patient to see the doctor. It is direct patient care, with on the job training.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical and eye history from patient
  • Documenting information using an EMR (electronic medical record)
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms
  • Perform screening and testing to prepare the patient for the doctor's exam. This includes: Visual acuity, Color vision screening, Auto and manual lensometry, Auto and manual refraction, Tonometry, Amsler grid, Pupil evaluation, Other testing as needed
  • Administer eye medications
  • May assist physicians during minor surgical procedures
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment
  • Refill and prescribe medication on doctor's behalf
  • Complete prior authorizations for patient medication
