About The Position

An Ophthalmology Technician plays a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologist by performing a variety of technical duties. Direct in-patient & out-patient care, diagnostic testing, and ensuring that patients receive the highest level of service possible. This helps in accurate diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions. This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) infant, pediatric, adult, older adult and frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Requirements

  • High School education required.
  • Post-high school ophthalmic assistant education or training required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required
  • ophthalmology CPT and ICD-9-CM coding required.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • American Board of Opticianry (ABO); National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE); Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Certifications preferred.
  • Other CPT and ICD-9-CM coding preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Taking patient histories
  • measuring visual acuity and eye pressure
  • conducting diagnostic imaging (like Humphrey Visual Fields, OCT, Fundus Photography)
