About The Position

This is a Per Diem Ophthalmic Technician position. The role involves greeting patients, obtaining and transcribing patient history and physician dictations into the EHR, maintaining patient confidentiality, and escorting patients to appropriate areas. The technician will assist physicians by obtaining supplies and performing various diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, autorefraction, lensometry, tonometry, visual field testing, glare testing, color vision testing, and Schirmer's tear testing. The role also includes reviewing patient charts, posting test results, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, managing inventory, and ensuring patient safety. The technician must be able to work with patients of all ages, including geriatric patients, and demonstrate compliance with all safety rules and policies. Regular travel to satellite locations may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Obtain patient history and transcribe results into EHR as physician dictates.
  • Record physician fee tickets in EHR as physician dictates.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Escort patients to appropriate areas.
  • Assist physician(s) by obtaining supplies as needed during patient care.
  • Perform visual acuity tests on patients.
  • Control patient flow.
  • Perform autorefraction and lensometry tests as needed.
  • Perform tonometry on patients.
  • Determine if patient needs further testing by technician.
  • Perform visual field testing, glare testing, color vision testing, Schirmer's tear testing as required.
  • Review patient charts and post tests and examination results into EHR.
  • Enter information of prior visits in EHR record.
  • Clean and sterilize equipment and maintain autoclave.
  • Stock supplies on an ongoing basis.
  • Clean patient exam rooms in relation to testing and equipment.
  • Check expiration of medications and supplies and follow-up as appropriate.
