About The Position
The Ophthalmic Technician performs diagnostic tests of the eyes to provide information to the ophthalmologist for diagnosis and treatment. The technician assists the ophthalmologist with diagnostic and treatment-oriented procedures, patient education, and administrative tasks, including appointment and surgery scheduling. Employees must follow the company’s code of business conduct, applicable laws and policies, HIPAA privacy requirements, and information security guidelines when handling confidential information. Requirements
- 1–3 years of full-time work experience under ophthalmologic supervision.
- American Heart Association CPR.
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of a JRCOMP-approved program for ophthalmology assistants.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake, including gathering ocular and medical history, medications, and allergies.
- Perform routine diagnostic tests using ophthalmic instruments, including intraocular pressure, basic motility, visual fields, PAM and BAT tests, A-scan USN, fundus photography, pupillary assessment, and measurement.
- Assist the physician during in-office diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, including instrumentation, sterile preparation, and documentation.
- Administer topical ophthalmic medications or diagnostic drops as required by the provider for testing or treatment.
- Assist the ophthalmologist with patient education related to prescribed treatment.
- Coordinate scheduling of patient appointments and surgeries.
- Comply with HIPAA, data security guidelines, the company’s Code of Business Conduct, applicable laws, company policies, and training requirements.
