About The Position

Northwest Eyes, a nationally recognized ophthalmic medical and surgical practice with vast clinical experience in a wide variety of eye surgical services and advanced technology, is searching for an Ophthalmic Technician to add to their team. This role involves working in a team-oriented clinical environment, providing outstanding patient care, accurate documentation, and summarization of ocular examinations and recommendations. The technician will maintain patient flow, communicate appointment status, and assist Ophthalmologists with clinical functions such as patient workups and special testing. Responsibilities may include administering eye medications, instructing patients on eye care, applying dressings, and assisting with in-office lasers and procedures.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of medical coding terminology and conventions.
Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office products, G-suite environments.
Willing to help in all areas, have the flexibility and effectively work in a team environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, and ability to convey ideas and information verbally and in writing.
Professional appearance, strong interpersonal skills, and patient confidentiality.
A strong organization with an attention to detail.
High school diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year experience as an ophthalmic assistant, experienced COA or COT preferred.
Maintains appropriate education, certification, licensure, and training.

Responsibilities

Quickly and accurately summarizes and documents what the Ophthalmologist says during an examination, including but not limited to the proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment, and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
Maintains an awareness of the patient’s verbal and non-verbal communication when the Ophthalmologist is providing instructions as it may necessitate the scribe repeating information, and/or providing patient education materials for the patient to review at home.
Ensures the patient understands all instructions.
Take and document patients' medical histories.
Operates ophthalmic equipment, such as Auto Refractor, Retinoscopes, Phoropters, Slit Lamp, Pentacam/Topography, Wavescan, IOL master/instar, Projectors, Zeiss OCT, and Heidelberg OCT.
Performs Pupil evaluation, Pachymetry, Humphrey Visual Field Testing, Tonometry, Color Vision Testing.
Performs Extraocular Muscle Function Testing & Hirschberg Testing.
Performs Van Herick measurements, Worth 4-Dot test, Stereopsis testing.
Triages phone calls from patients and outside contacts following the standard of care for Ophthalmology and office policies.
Sterilize instruments and maintain ophthalmic instruments or equipment.
Assist patients in inserting or removing contact lenses.
