About The Position

Assists in the various functions and clinical care of patients in the Divisions Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology. This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) infant, pediatric, adult, older adult and frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. An Ophthalmology Technician plays a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologist by performing a variety of technical duties. Direct in-patient & out-patient care, diagnostic testing, and ensuring that patients receive the highest level of service possible. This helps in accurate diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions.

Requirements

  • High School education required
  • Post-high school ophthalmic assistant education or training required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Ophthalmology CPT and ICD-9-CM coding required
  • Basic computer skills required

Nice To Haves

  • American Board of Opticianry (ABO); National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE); Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Certifications preferred
  • Other CPT and ICD-9-CM coding preferred
  • Advanced computer skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Taking patient histories
  • Measuring visual acuity and eye pressure
  • Conducting diagnostic imaging (like Humphrey Visual Fields, OCT, Fundus Photography)
  • Administering eye medications
  • Assisting with minor surgeries
  • Updating patient records
