About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician is primarily responsible for the work up, education and follow up of current and potential patients. This is an in-office position; remote work is not available. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School diploma or its equivalent is required.
Ability to type 45 wpm.
Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.

Nice To Haves

2+ years’ experience as Ophthalmology Technician preferred
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.
Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred.
Experience in Medical scribing preferred.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Responsibilities

Ability to interact and communicate in a professional demeanor with patients, doctors, and staff.
Accurately communicate pertinent information to patients.
Complete all necessary workups including obtaining medical and surgical history, and the completion of all diagnostic testing.
Prioritize and maintain efficient patient/doctor workflow.
Accurate pre-testing according to office policy and procedures.
Triage phone calls and forward to appropriate office staff.
Assist in minor procedures.
Prepare patients for additional laser procedures (blepharoplasty, injections, YAG, SLT).
Prepare necessary paperwork for surgeries ordered by the physicians.
In office and telephonic patient education and ensure its appropriately documented in patient’s chart.
Follow HIPPA guidelines to maintain strict patient confidentiality.
Cross train in back and front office procedures.
Help maintain back-office inventory/supplies.
Accurately perform Humphrey Visual Field, OCT scans, A-scans, Corneal Topography, Amsler grid, color testing, and additional diagnostic testing.
