The Ophthalmic Technician Supervisor is responsible for the management of the day-to-day work of the Ophthalmic Technician team, including scheduling, interviewing, training, and performance management. This role will also work collaboratively with the clinic physicians to perform basic, advanced, and complex manual and automated medical tests to allow for proper medical diagnosis. This position requires excellent computer skills and to communicate efficiently with patients, physicians and other staff members. Must be flexible in work assignments and schedule, demonstrate commitment to ongoing training and uphold to the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Five years of Ophthalmic Technician experience in an ophthalmology setting
  • One year previous leadership experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in EMR and computer literacy
  • Create and provide a positive, accountable and inspired work environment
  • Well-organized and attentive to detail
  • Basic Knowledge of Health Care and ACA requirements and regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Ophthalmic Technician certification preferred – COA or COT

Responsibilities

  • Complete competency in all areas of the ophthalmic technician job description and in the subspecialties and testing through designated location which includes but not limited to: Visual acuity measurement, Refractometry, Manual Tonometry, Manual Keratometry, Lensometry manual/auto, A-scan – manual/auto, IOL Measurements, Measure pupil size and reactivity, Test and measure eye muscle function, Potential acuity measurement, Brightness acuity test, Visual Field testing, Corneal topography, Retinal thickness and tomography, Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement
  • Ability to Scribe by documenting the patient’s medical record and inputting any recommended treatment and/or procedures that may be performed by the physician
  • Daily management of ophthalmic technician staff schedules to provide the best possible technical coverage on any given day; this includes taking calls and editing shifts due to illness.
  • Provide communication avenues to the Ophthalmic technicians from all other departments, i.e., tech meetings, etc.
  • Interviews, assists with selection, and trains candidates for ophthalmic Technician positions.
  • Assist with orientation and provides training for new Ophthalmic Technician staff.
  • Complete skill evaluations and coordinates training programs to further Ophthalmic Technician education.
  • Work with Practice Leader and Human Resources Department regarding disciplinary action and recommendation of termination of employees.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations of Ophthalmic Technician staff members.
  • Effectively and efficiently works with the Practice Leader to resolve matters of interdepartmental concern.
  • Identify areas of concern in efficiency throughout the clinic and work with the practice leader to resolve these issues.
  • Responsible for stocking facility and ordering supplies, as necessary.
