About The Position

To greet patients in a professional, courteous manner and obtain and document pertinent medical and ophthalmic patient history on the appropriate forms. This person is also responsible for basic clinical and diagnostic testing responsibilities. Responsibilities include performing basic diagnostic tests accurately, assisting physicians or optometrists with clinical procedures, administering eye drops and oral medications, and inserting and removing contacts. The role involves triaging patients appropriately based on appointment time and acuity of problem, preparing patients for the doctor, and maintaining a smooth, efficient flow throughout the clinic. The individual must be able to travel between offices as needed to staff other clinics. Adherence to all administrative and clinical practice policies and procedures is required. The role also involves maintaining efficient patient flow in the exam area, keeping patients informed of waiting status, providing accurate and consistent documentation, and educating patients before and after procedures in understandable terms, providing written instructions as available. Ensuring all medical records are in appropriate order, secured in the chart, and each page contains the patient's full name and birthday before returning to medical records is also a key responsibility. Specific duties include obtaining patient history, accurately testing patients' distance acuity, near acuity, confrontation visual fields, stereo, and color testing. Performing lensometry on single, bifocal, and progressive lenses as well as transposition accurately with minimal guidance is required. The ability to accurately perform Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer and refractometry with minimal assistance is necessary. A basic understanding of ophthalmic medications, including name, strength, dosage, and reason for use, is expected. Assigned ASC duties may include provider assistance or running lasers. The ability to correctly perform procedures without supervision, such as Keratomery (ARK), IOL Master, Pachymetry, Topography, checking angles with a slit lamp, identifying pupil abnormalities, and performing careful pupil measurements, is also required.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
