Requirements

• High School Diploma required.
• 2 or more years of related experience, with at least one year as an Ophthalmic Photographer with experience in retina.
• Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in diagnostic testing, including ultrasound, OCT, Goldmann and Humphrey visual fields, A and B-scan, Corneal Topography, Corneal Pachymetry, and Heidelberg Retinal Topography.
• Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Ophthalmic Medical Assistant (COA), or equivalent higher training OR COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant), CRA (Certified Retinal Angiographer), or equivalent higher certification.
• 6 months - 1 year experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs ophthalmic photography and modifies equipment for each test.
• Takes images of patients using specialized equipment including ocular fundus imaging system (FA, ICG), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Corneal Topography, Specular Microscopy, and Photo Slit Lamp Biomicroscope, as requested by physician.
• May train and educate others in the Department of Ophthalmology in ophthalmic photography techniques and protocols.
• Maintains a clean and sterile environment, ensuring adherence to infection control precautions, HIPAA, and Privacy & Security policies.
• Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times.
• Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents, ensuring adequate stock for patient care and timely ordering.
• Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery.
• Prepares materials for audio-visual presentations, publications, lectures, and exhibits, handling requests from faculty, residents, and fellows.
• Recognizes and advises supervisor of equipment problems or malfunctions requiring vendor repair, and may assist with minor adjustments and preventive maintenance.
• Assists with image archiving and storage, manages duplicates, and escalates issues with image capture.
• Obtains pre-procedural consent forms and other related documentation.
• Educates patients regarding medication administration and pre- or post-operative procedural instructions as directed by the ophthalmologist.
• Monitors patients' conditions and reactions during imaging processes like Fluorescein Angiography (FA), documents in EMR, and notifies physicians as needed.
• Photographs medical phenomena of the eye to document diseases, surgeries, treatments, and congenital problems to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
