About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Ophthalmic Photographer to join our dynamic, high-volume retina practice. The successful candidate will work directly with our vitreoretinal surgeon and clinical team to capture and manage high-quality diagnostic images using state-of-the-art imaging technologies. This individual plays a critical role in patient care, supporting diagnostic accuracy and surgical planning through the delivery of precise ophthalmic imaging.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in ophthalmic imaging, preferably in a retina practice
Proficiency with imaging platforms such as Heidelberg, Zeiss, Optos, Topcon, or equivalent
Strong understanding of retinal anatomy and common vitreoretinal diseases
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a high-volume clinical setting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

Certification by the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS)
Certification by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)
Experience with EMR systems (e.g., NextGen, Epic, ModMed)
BLS certification

Responsibilities

Perform a full range of retinal imaging procedures including: Fundus photography (color, red-free, autofluorescence), Fluorescein angiography (FA), Indocyanine green angiography (ICG), Optical coherence tomography (OCT and OCT-A), Widefield and ultra-widefield imaging (e.g., Optos), External and slit lamp photography.
Prepare and educate patients for imaging procedures.
Obtain relevant medical and ocular history as needed.
Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging sessions.
Work closely with the vitreoretinal surgeon to prioritize urgent cases and provide timely imaging.
Communicate effectively with the clinical team regarding patient status, imaging results, and workflow.
Upload, organize, and maintain image records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Accurately label and annotate images according to protocol.
Ensure timely delivery of images for review by physicians.
Perform daily calibration and maintenance of all imaging equipment.
Troubleshoot basic technical issues and coordinate service when needed.
Follow infection control and safety protocols.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and clinic privacy standards.
Adhere to clinical guidelines for contrast agents during angiography.
